Manchester United’s total of 12 points from their first 10 matches of 2024-25 makes this their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
Manchester United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea making it just 12 points from their opening 10 matches of the campaign.
Not since the 1986-87 season have the Red Devils had fewer points (eight) at this stage, and they are currently down in 13th spot in the Premier League table, with their 12 points being accumulated by three wins and three draws.
Bruno Fernandes‘ penalty sent Man United ahead in the 70th minute of Sunday’s clash with Chelsea, but Moises Caicedo‘s volley levelled the scores four minutes later, and the points were shared in Manchester.
Fernandes said after the match that he was pleased to score his first Premier League goal of the season but admitted that there was “a lot of disappointment in the dressing room” with the final result.

Fernandes scored first Premier League goal of the season vs. Chelsea
“Everyone knows how much I wanted the goal to come. I need to help the team with goals and assists. It’s been one of the most disappointing things this season – but I got some in the cup. Now scoring in the Premier League,” Fernandes told BBC Sport.
“It was a lot of disappointment in the dressing room. We could have won the game. Not much has changed. In midweek the goals went in. I said to some friends everything will come to us and people will say we wanted the manager to be sacked.
“We get the point and we can be happy for that. We need to be disappointed because we’re far back in the league. Ruud [Van Nistelrooy] is a nice guy, humble for someone who won everything at the club.”
Former Man United captain Roy Keane, meanwhile, was critical of the Red Devils after the match, with the ex-midfielder claiming that incoming head coach Ruben Amorim has a lot of work to do at Old Trafford.

Keane slams “average” Man United after Chelsea draw
“Ruben Amorim should have signed a longer contract. There’s a long way back for this team. This is an average Untied team, all the stats back it up,” Keane told Sky Sports News.
“We are repeating ourselves, we don’t know what we are going to get from them – it’s hit and miss. This United team, boring, might be a bit strong. At the end it was a bit more open, but really disappointed – it was so flat. From the managers point of view, this team is way off it.
“A really disappointing performance. United are a bit average at everything and they are not special. The lack of goals is hard to believe. When you look at United, they play for moments. That’s nowhere near good enough for a United team.”
Van Nistelrooy will remain in charge of Man United on an interim basis for their next two matches against PAOK and Leicester City in the Europa League and Premier League respectively before Amorim arrives from Sporting Lisbon.
Amorim’s first game in charge of the 20-time English champions will be away to Ipswich Town on November 24.
