Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag provides a fitness update on Mason Mount, with the Englishman still unavailable for selection.
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that Mason Mount will be “back soon”.
The Englishman has been restricted to just 25 appearances for Man United since his arrival from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, having struggled with a number of fitness problems.
Mount started Man United’s opening two matches of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, but he was then missing with a hamstring problem before returning to action towards the end of September.
The 25-year-old has not featured since the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on September 29, though, having suffered a head injury and a knock during the contest with Ange Postecoglou‘s side.
Mount will again be absent when the 20-time English champions tackle Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night, but Ten Hag is hopeful that he will be available again “soon”.
“Little bit longer than we expected. I think he will be back soon,” Ten Hag told reporters on Wednesday night when questioned on the former Chelsea youngster, who has only scored once for the Red Devils.

Man United will also be missing Bruno Fernandes through suspension against Fenerbahce, while Jonny Evans, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo are absent through injury.
However, Ten Hag has full faith in the players that are available for selection on Thursday night.
“The players who are available have to do the job and they are capable of doing the job,” added the manager. “I think we have enough players in the team that are so experienced. Our team is so experienced. We’ve faced such situations more often.
“I think we’re looking forward, I think it will be a great ambience that’s fuel for the team and it’s a real challenge, it’s a motivation, it’s really good for us.”
Man United will enter the clash with Fenerbahce off the back of a 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League, with Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund on the scoresheet.
The Red Devils are currently 21st in the Europa League table, picking up two points from two matches, while Jose Mourinho‘s Fenerbahce are 13th, claiming four points from their opening two games.
