It looks like the Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their quarterbacks moving forward.
With the Cleveland Browns losing starting quarterback Deshaun Watson to a season-ending injury, they needed to add a quarterback to fill out their depth chart. To do that, they poached a veteran quarterback off of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL, the Cleveland Browns have signed veteran quarterback Bailey Zappe off of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad to add a little bit of depth behind Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
“A new QB in Cleveland: The Browns are signing Bailey Zappe off the #Chiefs practice squad, per sources,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“With Deshaun Watson’s season over and Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s status in flux, Jameis Winston could start Sunday vs. Baltimore and Zappe would back him up.”
While Zappe was only on the Chiefs practice squad, he does have quite a bit of experience, starting eight games for the New England Patriots throughout his young career.
Zappe’s departure left the Chiefs with starter Patrick Mahomes and Carson Wentz on the roster, and the team quickly replaced Zappe with Chris Oladokun.
Needless to say, this whole situation led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Imagine going from the chiefs to the browns,” another fan wrote. “that news had to hit like a freight train.”
“Bad move for the Zap. He could have had a 15 year cushy job in Chiefs Kingdom as backup/scout team,” another fan added.
“Zappe asking his agent if he can veto this,” another fan quipped.
“Poor guy he was living life out there,” another fan said.
“Pray for Bailey, he is going from the best org to one of the worst, he will need our support in this time of hardship,” another fan added.
“Poor Bailey,” another fan said.
We’ll have to see how Zappe fares in Cleveland.
