It hasn’t been a great season for Niagara University’s women’s basketball team. And looking at something that happened in Thursday’s game against Fairfield, it’s not hard to figure out why.
Fairfield’s Kaety L’Amoreaux brought the ball up the court for the Stags before passing it off to teammate Sydni Scott. While Scott had a clean look at her subsequent three-point attempt, her shot hit off the rim and ended up in the hands of Jemima Lacroix, who made a layup, giving Fairfield two points. Lacroix’s quick putback shot was completely uncontested — and there was a good reason for that.
Lacroix plays for Niagara.
So her uncontested layup was into her own basket, gave two points to Fairfield and was credited to Scott, the last Stags player to possess the ball.
Can you spot what Niagara WBB did wrong? (The announcers were out to lunch) pic.twitter.com/n6b5e35C10

Observers took note of the blooper.
I know the MAAC is far from high major, but for a college athlete to do this is INSANE.
Plus for the announcers to not even recognize it is even crazier ? https://t.co/sszfVcwF5i

The Stags didn’t exactly need the help. They already had a comfortable 49-29 lead and went on to win 96-49. With the win, Fairfield moved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) play. The Purple Eagles, meanwhile, fell to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
But while Fairfield didn’t need the help on Thursday, we’re guessing the team was more than happy to receive it.
